USA Defeated England in the Tenth Townsend Cup

Keeping the historical tradition of competitive international rivalry alive, the USA team clinched a 15-11 victory over England in the tenth edition of the Townsend Cup. The match was held at the New Bridge Polo & Country Club in Aiken, South Carolina.

Team USA was comprised of Andrew Scott, Pelon Escapite, and team captain Tommy Biddle Jr., while the English side featured Toby Bradshaw, Eden Ormerod, and Jack Hyde.

Awarding England one goal on handicap, the match began with England's Jack Hyde opening the scoring for a 2-0 advantage. The USA quickly responded, ending the first chukker tied at 2-all. In a high-scoring second period, all six players reached the scoreboard. Biddle Jr. significantly impacted with a two-pointer off a Penalty 4, matched by Hyde for England.

Leading 9-7 at halftime, the USA maintained their momentum. Despite England briefly taking a 10-9 lead in the third period, the USA surged ahead, entering the final chukker with a 13-11 lead. Exceptional defense kept England scoreless in the last period, sealing the USA's victory.

Earning his fifth Townsend Cup title, Tommy Biddle Jr. was named Most Valuable Player. The Best Playing Pony award went to grey mare GC Wera, played by Pelon Escapite and owned by Gabriel Crespo.

As the official apparel supplier of the USA team, U.S. Polo Assn. outfitted the Americans with jerseys and saddle pads. The Townsend Cup match is now available on-demand online via the USPA Polo Network, featuring guest commentator and arena legend Tom Goodspeed alongside Toby Wayman.
